The Original Bach Flower Essences

Flower essences are subtle liquid extracts used to correct imbalances in emotional well-being and mind-body health.
Flower essences do not work because of the chemical composition of the liquid (as would be the case with modern pharmaceuticals), but rather the resonant life force of the plant infused within the water acts as the healing agent. As with homeopathy, the essences are vibrational in nature. Their impact is not the result of any direct bio-chemical interaction within the body. Rather, the flower essences work through the human energy fields. These energy fields then positively influence mental, emotional, and physical balance and well-being.
Bach Agrimony Flower Essence
This remedy is for those who tend to deny their emotional pain, keeping it hidden behind a mask of pleasure and cheerfulness. They do not like being alone, so they seek out friends, parties and bright lights. Only when they are alone with their thoughts does the pain come back to the surface. What they really need is to find peace as an inner reality, rather than an outer state of behaviour which others validate. Agrimony encourages them to work with their pain as a path to inner peace.
Bach Aspen Flower Essence
Aspen is for any fear whose cause cannot be named. It may be a vague anxiety and apprehension, an uneasy foreboding that something unpleasant or frightening is going to happen. Or it can be a real terror, with physical symptoms such as the hair standing on end. Aspen essence calms and harmonizes the natural psychic tendencies of these people by allowing their conscious mind to receive and process more information, thus building within them trust and confidence to meet the unknown.
Bach Beech Flower Essence
The Beech remedy helps transform the tendency to be critical and intolerant of difference in others. The Beech personality lacks compassion and understanding of the circumstances and paths that other people are given, and fails to see that others are also working towards perfection in their own ways. Sometimes the intolerance is manifested as outbursts of irritability. The remedy helps to encourage tolerance and understanding, and as this happens so the irritability also fades.
Bach Centaury Flower Essence
Centaury is for people who find it difficult to say 'no' to others. These people are kind, gentle souls and they like to help but sometimes others take advantage of this. Instead of being a willing servant, they end up enslaved by another's wishes. The Centaury flower essence supports the development of courage and self-determination in such people, encouraging them to serve others from inner strength, with a healthy recognition of their own needs and an ability to say "no" when appropriate.
Bach Cerato Flower Essence
This is the remedy for people who lack faith in their judgement. Faced with the need to make a choice, they can come to a decision but, after the decision is made, doubts creep in and they are no longer sure if what they have decided is right. They go around asking for the opinions and advice of others, and end up confused or doing something that they know in their hearts is not right. Cerato helps them have more faith in their judgement so that they can trust their inner voice.
Bach Cherry Plum Flower Essence
This is one of the remedies that Dr Bach grouped together under the heading Fear. The Cherry Plum fear is very specific: it is the fear that one is going to lose control of oneself and do something dreadful, such as injuring others or harming oneself. Fears of going mad and of acting irrationally are Cherry Plum states as well. At these extreme times, Cherry Plum brings strength and encouragement, thus helping the person overcome the extreme tension and fear.
Bach Chicory Flower Essence
People in need of Chicory care for their families and friends but they expect to receive love and attention in return, with interest, and feel slighted and unnecessarily hurt if they don't get all they expect. They express love by being possessive, demanding, and needy, and often get attention through negative behaviour. This may stifle the development of other personalities or drive people away. The remedy helps bring out the positive side of Chicory - selfless love given freely and unconditionally with respect for the freedom and individuality of others.
